Once again, the European Music Day took over Athens!! It changed the rhythm of Athens despite its critics and market tendencies … not to mention the highest attendance to date! “European Music Day again. Because it managed to change the way we see the city. Because the vibrations of the deep bass sounds shook the cement buildings and our careless view of the ordinary squares. The town swayed to the rhythm and beat of the Greek music scene. And this will do… Refreshing. And woe betide the cement……For the town’s fete” (Athens Voice newspaper) It was enough to walk through one of the eighteen sites to realize that everyone there realised that the city was celebrating. The squares were packed to such a degree that the authorities did not stop the music at the programmed hour and the Music Day became TV newsworthy despite. As a famous local radio producer said: “what is going on here is the most professional and “classy” event that has ever happened down town. It’s magical…” Once again, every site was full of life, every day from noon until late at night. At Kotzia square, the program finished at 4 am!! This has never happened before! Present, on the biggest concert stage ever set up in a public space in Athens, were the best Greek and upcoming foreign dance and rock/pop bands. At Klathmonos square you had the city’s new music directions and at Technopolis everybody danced to jazz and world music with Mory Kante until 2 o’clock in the morning. The human traffic in Syntagma square changed for three days, as people flocked in and around musical shows, road theatre and percussionists. For a second year in the row at the National Garden, which is used only by European Music Day for an event, was taken over by dance theatre teams. Gazochori, Mavili square and the French Institute were also packed! ….so, what can be said about the crowd? It depends who you are going to ask. The sponsors? The professionals who set up the kiosks and stands? The police? Or maybe the artists..? We think it is enough to say that the crowd doubled from last year’s event. ..And for those who didn’t have the chance to participate this year, there is nothing to worry about. You will have the chance same time next year, 21st of June!!! Partners Institutional Partners Grand Sponsor Sponsors Partners Media Sponsors Television Radio Press Internet Collaborateurs |
